Sapphirus

Transparent and opaque glass

40 cm L x 19 cm W x 6 cm H

The ancient Persians believed that sapphires were chips from the pedestal that supported the earth and that their reflections gave the sky its colour. Almost 900 pieces of interconnected translucent, clear and opaque glass were used in this on-edge construction. The resulting reflection evokes the colours of the sky.
